- Students can also present clinical cases in the different classes to discuss cases and provide help in terms of treatment.
- A one-day workshop is planned for small groups to learn postural adaptations for plaster casts (moulded seats, standing tables and paediatric standing frames) and splints or thermoplastic splints.
- Each student will need to complete a final master’s degree project. They will be assigned a tutor for this, who will supervise them.
- There will be an evaluation system during the course that will assess how the various types of knowledge are acquired.
- The longitudinal nature of the programme’s subjects means it can become cross-disciplinary in terms of teaching and evaluation. Since the Master’s Degree in Paediatric Physiotherapy aims to provide students with professional competences, and because knowledge, aptitudes and abilities cannot be separated or compartmentalised, the methodology used covers the pathology, diagnosis and treatment intervention all at once. Thus, the subjects will mainly be organised annually instead of semesterly and will be evaluated together mainly using evidence provided by resolving clinical cases.
The Final Master’s Degree Project (“TFM”) is an exercise that brings together the educational content received and the skills acquired in the programme. In order to unify the criteria and procedures that ensure homogeneity in the organisation and assessment of this work, the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya has an Internal Regulation of Final Bachelor’s Degree Projects and Final Master’s Degree Project, which applies to all the official qualifications offered by the UIC, regulated by Royal Decree 1393/2007 and amended by Royal Decree 861/2010.
This publicly accessible regulation contains the basic guidelines relating to the definition, design, supervision/direction, defence, assessment, management and public availability of the TFMs.
In the context of the Master's Degree in Paediatric Physiotherapy, there are 15 ECTS credits assigned to this subject. The project will be performed individually by the student. The project entails being able to design, plan and/or implement the most efficient paediatric physiotherapy intervention based on scientific evidence. The competencies that are acquired in the Master's degree, together with the formulation of questions, allow the student to defend the paediatric physiotherapy intervention with clear arguments and justifications. This implies the integration of the content received, which is reflected in the development of a research project.
The educational activities relating to the TFM, will focus primarily on the tutorials (both group and individuals with the project tutor, a specialist in the field), and in the self-learning activities.
Both the development and the assessment of the TFM will be supervised by the Academic Committee of the Master’s Degree and the coordinator of the project. They will be responsible for:
- Proposing topics and the related tutors, from which students may choose.
- Proposing examining panels and appointing them.
- Developing assessment rubrics and agreeing upon assessment criteria.
- Making the proposal for defence of the TFM.
- Ensuring the process of assessment by competencies and students’ acquisition of those competencies.
