Topic 1: Introduction to prosthetics on implants. Patient selection and diagnosis, treatment sequence.
- Introduction to prosthodontics. Mission and objectives.
- Terminology of prosthetics on implants.
- Characteristics of implants, different shapes and surfaces.
- Different phases in treatment development.
- Different types of prosthetics.
- Anamnesis patient examination.
- Use of study models.
- Knowing what are the absolute and relative indications and contraindications.
Topic 2: Selection of prosthetic pillars (theory)
- Factors that define the type of pillar to be used.
- Mechanical pillar, abutment mechanical pillar, abutment pillar and cad-cam; characteristics and indications.
- Screw-retained prosthetics versus cemented prosthetics.
- Workshop to recognise and use different prosthetic attachments.
Topic 3: Model casting on implants (theory)
- Differences between natural teeth and implants and the importance of this in model casting.
- Objectives of model casting on implants.
- Different attachments necessary for model casting.
- Open tray and closed tray technique. Characteristics and indications.
- Material required for model casting.
Topic 4: Model casting on implants (practice)
- Model casting PRACTICE.
- Open tray and closed tray technique practice.
- Model casting copy personalisation practice.
Topic 5: Unit and partial prosthetics
- The importance of provisional prosthetics.
- Types of provisional prosthetics, indications.
- Immediate aesthetic and load concepts.
- Knowing the distinguishing characteristics between anterior and posterior unit prosthetics.
- Different elements necessary to produce unit prosthetics on implants.
- Risk factors to achieve an aesthetic result on the anterior face.
- Knowing the importance of load distribution in the posterior sector, as well as crown-implant relationship.
- Materials used during preparation.
- Knowing the different preparation phases of anterior and posterior partial prosthetics.
- Knowing the type of occlusion of partial prosthetics.
Topic 6: Provisional prosthetics on implants
- Practice producing provisional prosthetics on implants on a model
Topic 7: Full fixed prosthetics
- Knowing the different types of prosthetics that can be performed according to the materials and the prosthetics needed. Concept of Hybrid Prosthetics and Full Arch.
- Identifying the different attachments and materials used to prepare full fixed prosthetics.
- Knowing the type of occlusion to give fixed prosthetics supported on implants.
Topic 8: Intra-oral scanner
- Introduction to the intra-oral scanner in dentistry and practice
Topic 9: Implant-retained overdentures
- Concept of what an overdenture is.
- Clinical indications and contraindications.
- Concept of the terms implant-supported overdenture and implant / mucosa-supported overdenture.
- Types of overdentures: on unit anchors and on bars
- Knowing which is the clinical sequence to follow during preparation.
