Course on managing soft tissue when doing provisional restorations
First day
Introduction
- Provisional restorations over screw implants:
- Basic concepts; critical and sub-critical profile
- Types of provisional restorations: natural tooth, laboratory generated using the double-mix technique or CAD/CAM
- Where and how to establish the critical contour
- Subcritical contour, concave or convex?
Coffee break
- Provisional restorations over screw implants:
- Optimisation of the papilla by modifying the provisional restoration.
- Transfer of the emergence profile to the working model, personalising the coping, direct technique, impression using the provisional restoration.
- Communication with the lab technician.
- Shaping the profile on the working model, rigid or semi-rigid gingival mask, CAD/CAM
- Discussion and critical analysis of the available scientific literature on the subject
Lunch
- Ovoid pontics:
- Types: Using the patient's own tooth and laboratory-manufactured ones (Maryland/Rochette)
- Concept of prosthetic sealing post-regeneration.
- When to start to apply pressure?
- Atraumatic alternative to a conventional second surgical intervention: “soft tissue remodelling technique”
Coffee break
- Ovoid pontics:
- Shaping the emergence profile; the critical and subcritical profile.
- Protocol for pontic site augmentation in a predictable way.
- Optimisation of papillae through modifying the provisional restoration.
- Personalisation of the impression coping before taking the impression: pontic duplication technique
- Communication with the lab technician.
