Innovation and Design with Ceramic Materials
This course has been organised since 2004 by the Barcelona Ceramics Chair, the precursor of the ASCER Network of Spanish Ceramics Chairs, and seeks to establish partnerships with the ceramic material production industry through the innovative design of elements with architectural applications (pavements, façades, trellises, ceilings, roofs, etc.).
It has three key vectors: techniques for manufacturing ceramic materials, interaction with industry players and ability to design architectural elements.
The main activities cover the theoretical, technical and practical aspects of ceramics: conferences with renowned architects, in which participants reflect on ceramics and its connection to the central themes of architecture; talks by experts and visits aimed at offering a closer look at the material and its practical applications; and, lastly, a contest in which students design a ceramic element. At the end of the contest, a jury of 4 prestigious architects and a representative from ASCER will award prizes to the top three projects. We also encourage students to enter their work in the international CEVISAMA competition, in which students from this course have won numerous awards.
Prospective students
Fourth and fifth-year students from any Spanish School of Architecture or recent graduates, provided that they earned their degree in Architecture in the two years prior to the start of the course.
