Case method 1

Weekly presentation together with the Master's teaching staff on the different treatment plans available for paediatric patients seen at the University Dental Clinic, both for conservative children’s dentistry and interceptive orthodontics.
 
Paediatric Dentistry Research 1
  • Fortnightly discussion of recent articles published in journals specialising in Paediatric Dentistry with JCR impact factor.
  • Preparing the protocol for the research section of the Final Master's Degree Project.
  • Introduction to writing scientific papers (literature review).

Paediatric Dentistry Research 2

  • Field work for the research project.
  • Defence of the Final Master’s Degree Project to the examining board.

  • Pulp treatments (pulpotomies, pulpectomies, pulp treatments on young permanent teeth)
  • Extractions
  • Space maintainers
  • Starting interceptive orthodontic treatment
  • Acting as a dental assistant in patients under nitrous oxide sedation and general anaesthesia

Second year
Clinical practice 2

 
  • Prevention (prophylaxis, sealing dental pits and fissures, fluoridation), applying the CAMBRA protocol.
  • Conservative treatments (fillings, crowns, prostheses)
  • Pulp treatments (pulpotomies, pulpectomies, pulp treatments on young permanent teeth)
  • Surgery (braces, supernumerary extraction, germectomies)
  • Space maintainers
  • Interceptive orthodontics
  • NOR (neuro-occlusal rehabilitation in temporary teeth)
  • Infant clinic (0-3 years)
  • Treatment under nitrous oxide sedation
  • Treatments under general anaesthesia and sedation in collaboration with the Hospital General de Catalunya. 
Rotation with the Paediatric Dentistry department at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu (Barcelona), where students will practice their clinical skills on children with special needs. Tutor: Dr Alejandro Rivera.
 
Rotation with the Paediatric Dentistry department at the Fundació Hospital de Nens de Barcelona, collaborating with the department of dentistry for babies at the foundation. Tutor: Dr Isabel Maura.
 
Students will have the opportunity to complete rotations with Dr Josep Rubio at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu (Barcelona).  

Couses and conferences

At the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya we know it is extremely important for professionals to attend and participate in national and international conferences, which are extremely important for professional development.
 
Students must attend all the courses deemed appropriate by the Master's coordinators, and must present papers and posters at national and international conferences related to Paediatric Dentistry (SEOP, Young Paediatric Dentists, EAPD, IAPD, AAPD, etc.) during the two-year duration of the Master's programme.
