CLUC is a language proficiency certificate issued by the twelve Catalan universities. It is approved by the Interuniversity Council of Catalonia, accredited by the Spanish Association of Language Centres in Higher Education (ACLES) and recognised by the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE).
CLUC exams bear the CertAcles seal and are recognised by the European Confederation of Language Centres in Higher Education (CERCLES), of which 22 European countries are currently members. With these exams, you may therefore certify a B1, B2 or C1 level both in Spain and throughout Europe.
As of June 2018, UIC Barcelona will no longer offer two CLUC B2 English Exam sittings per academic year.
Now, all B1, B2 or C1 exams created by the different university language services and recognised by ACLES will also be considered CLUC exams.
UIC Barcelona is currently working with other universities to create its own exam. In the meantime, students will be able to take the CLUC exam at other universities, with the same conditions and price as students from the universities organising the exam.
The CLUC exam is a paper exam that is divided into four sections: writing, speaking, reading and listening. You will find examples of the different exam sections, as well as a detailed explanation of each part and the exam's assessment criteria, on the website of the university organising the exam.
In addition to a B2 level, some CLUC exams also assess and certify levels B1 and C1 under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Exam candidates
Any student, administrative staff member or research and teaching staff member at a Catalan university who needs to reliably certify a B1, B2 or C1 level in all four areas of knowledge is eligible to take this exam. As is anyone aged 18 or older.
Price
Undergraduate students and staff members at all the Catalan universities may take the CLUC exam at a reduced rate of €65, €75 or €150, depending on the university organising the exam. In any case, all students at Catalan universities will pay the same rate (that stipulated by the organising institution) regardless of which university they attend.
If you certify a B2 level of language competence through the CLUC B2 English Exam, you are eligible for a grant to cover part of the enrolment fees.
The application deadline for the 2017-2018 academic year is 30 September 2018.
