GRE - Research Group in Parenting, Equality and the Work-Life Balance
The Parenting, Equality and Work-Life Balance Research Group was set up at UIC Barcelona based on close cooperation between the Faculty of Education and the Institute for Advanced Family Studies.
Over the years a series of joint contributions have been made, such as the publication of articles in high-impact indexed articles and participation in numerous national and international conferences.
The aim of this group is to place an emphasis on the benefits of organised households that are economically stable, and educating children: in other words, parenting. Families in which the protagonists achieve gender symmetry (between the couple and the children: in terms of both vertical and horizontal relationships) and in which the work-life balance and a balance between the school and personal life is a challenge that becomes an absence of stress. Managing stress is the cornerstone of this group. The group discusses managing adversity, in terms of both time and family objectives. Chaotic and stressed homes full of anxiety mean that skills to overcome challenges become derailed. The home is a place to relax in, to achieve the affective and educational balance that translates into subjective well-being and forms the basis of good health, more balanced behaviour and improved performance at school and at work for both parents and children. In order to achieve this balance psychology and neuroscience place a spotlight on self-regulation based on the development of executive functions (self-control, working memory and flexible thinking).
