Interdisciplinary conference on science and religion

From the genesis of to the current challenges in the area of peace and sustainability

Who is it aimed at?

Teachers and professors from the area of religion, natural sciences, philosophy and ethics, from Primary and Secondary Education.  It is especially aimed at people who want to look in greater depth into the relationship between science and faith in the light of the recent encyclical from Pope Francisco entitled Alabado seas (Be Praised).

Objective

The aim of the course is to reflect on current significant ethical challenges such as new forms of slavery, violence, the technocratic paradigm and the lack of sustainability on our planet. A look will also be taken at the ideas that contribute to peace and sustainability through education.

Methodology

The course has a clear leitmotiv.  Based on a reflection on the first chapters of Genesis and social teachings from the most recent Popes (Evangelium vitae, Caritas in veritate) and the latest encyclical Laudato si', the aim is to ground the dignity of the individual so as to know how to find ethical responses to the moral challenges of a techno-scientific and globalised culture.  There will be talks given by university professors from different disciplines, as well as workshops.

Participants who want to give an academic workshop on the topic for this conference must send their proposal by 13 October.
