Course description

Over recent years, various technologies have been introduced into the dentistry market aimed at improving prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care of dental implants and other tissues in the oral cavity. One of these tools is laser technology. There are currently research studies being undertaken in different areas of dentistry and protocols of use standardised by expert professionals that demonstrate the effectiveness of using laser. Therefore, it is necessary for dentists who wish to offer this technology in their daily practice to be aware of the basic concepts of lasers, the rules governing their safe use, the indications for each wavelength and the protocols that apply to their use in each type of treatment.

Other cutting-edge technologies within the dental sphere are the use of magnification through the use of magnifying lenses and also the use of centrifuges to obtain plasma rich in platelets and leukocytes. The combination of these new technologies provides added value to dental treatments.

Course objectives

The aim of this course is to provide an introduction and update for professionals on the use of lasers as a diagnostic tool and for treatment across various dental specialities, as well as knowledge about new technoscientific improvements using other technologies such as PRGF (Endoret ®), and L-PRF (Intralock®).

Competences to be acquired by students

The course is designed to provide basic scientific evidence based knowledge on the use of these technologies in dentistry and to improve practical skills through each of them.

  • Learn what a laser is and what the clinical benefits are of using this technology (diode, erbium, neodymium and CO2 lasers )
  • Learn the basic operating rules for laser units and the safety regulations that apply to patients and surgeons.
  • Learn the treatment indications of the lasers most frequently used in Dentistry: diode and erbium. Laser of choice in each dental discipline and its protocols.
  • Improve skills in using these technologies across all dentistry specialisms.

Prospective students

Dentists and stomatologists, and 5th year dentistry students who want to learn about using lasers in dentistry and other cutting-edge technologies such as the use of growth factors via magnification and centrifuges.
