  • Basic information

Auto-transplantation and intentional reimplantation are starting to be considered as alternative treatment approaches and are used increasingly often in clinical practice. In addition, this technique has undergone a revolution in the last decade due to advances in 3D medical technology and tissue regeneration.

Although there are publications that support these treatments, there is a gap in terms of courses in this area. This course aims to offer the training required to perform auto-transplantation and intentional reimplantation and is aimed at both general dentists and specialists.

Course objectives

  • To learn the basic foundations and clinical protocols that are supported by publications on both techniques.
  • To provide dentists with the diagnostic and therapeutic tools required to perform auto-transplantation and intentional reimplantation.
  • To learn the importance of 3D planning and the use of splints for dental self-transplantation and intentional re-implantation techniques.

Competences to be acquired by students

  • Learning about the different treatment approaches for a dislodged tooth.
  • Knowing the basic concepts of dental traumatology and the consequences of traumatic avulsion.
  • A chronological history of transplants and auto-transplantation.
  • An understanding of the differences and indications inherent to auto-transplantation (both open and closed apex) and intentional reimplantation.
  • Learning how to choose the right technique for each clinical situation.
  • Mastering the biological foundations behind both techniques.
  • Analysing both classic and current publications for both techniques; prognosis,
  • success and failure criteria, methodology and results.
  • Managing and using the CBCT machine as a basic tool that is a requirement when planning auto-transplantation.
  • The application of biomaterials in the field of auto-transplantation and intentional reimplantation.
  • Understanding the surgical and restorative protocols for auto-transplantation (both in growing and fully-grown patients) and intentional reimplantation.

Prospective students

General dentists, endodontists, oral surgeons and implantologists, periodontists, paediatric dentists and orthodontists.
