In 2015, the United Nations approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which outlined 17 objectives (SDG). This presented the perfect opportunity for all countries and societies to set out towards a future that improves the lives on everyone on our planet, without exception.

How can we build a more human and sustainable society in such a fluid context?
A population’s identity: Should it be fixed or opened up to accommodate other cultures?
What will life after COVID-19 look like? Do we know what makes us more human? The need to establish human relationships, to protect the vulnerable, to care for the elderly, to reflect upon the impact individual behaviour has on the rest of society, to respect individual freedom and the need to put social measures in place, etc.
What can nature teach us and what does it mean to take care of our home, our planet?
Is personal success compatible with peaceful co-existence?
Universities and their role in human development, current educational challenges.
These questions, and others, which we all ask ourselves, will be posed at the UIC Barcelona Forum 2021.

What do you want to contribute?

This year’s UIC Barcelona Forum will include an interdisciplinary dialogue on the theme “Sustainable human development” and focus on the role we each play in this development. Students and lecturers alike at UIC Barcelona have pledged to contribute new proposals, find new ways to live in a more inclusive world and encourage a holistic approach to both our individual and societal development.

What drives us is finding positive answers in times of uncertainty and cooperating to mitigate the dual financial and health crisis to the best of our abilities. We offer our knowledge and intellectual rigour to society in order to transform the current situation into a great opportunity to make the world a more human place to be.

Regarding last year’s Forum:
  • We are keeping the “Academic project” category, which has featured consistently since the Forum’s first edition and contributes to intellectual and research-related dialogue and cultivation.
  • We are launching the category “Social impact projects”, focused on the crisis sparked by COVID-19. This is why we are looking for students and professors that want to find real and creative initiatives that boost human development in the society and context we live in today.
