FAQs

What kinds of master’s and postgraduate degrees does UIC Barcelona offer and what is the difference between them?

UIC Barcelona offers three types of “third-cycle” programmes: university master’s degrees, UIC-specific master’s degrees and postgraduate degrees.

University master’s degrees can be recognised by their title “University Master’s Degree in”. UIC-specific master’s degrees can be recognised by their title “Master’s Degree in”. Postgraduate degrees can be recognised by their title “Postgraduate in”.

University master’s degrees are generally research-focused and help you gain access to PhD programmes. These master’s degrees are evaluated for quality by the Catalan Agency for University Quality Assessment (AQU Catalunya) and by the National Agency for the Evaluation of Quality and Accreditation (ANECA), both members of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA). The degree is issued by the Ministry of Education of the Government of Spain.

UIC-specific master’s degrees and postgraduate degrees have a professional focus and will not allow you to access a PhD programme. The degree is issued by UIC Barcelona under the auspices of our University’s prestige.

What qualification will I obtain when I finish my master’s or postgraduate degree at UIC Barcelona?

University master’s degrees are issued by the Ministry of Education of the Government of Spain, which means you will need to pay fees in advance that correspond to its issue.  You will receive the degree certificate approximately one year following the payment of said fees.

UIC-specific master’s degrees and postgraduate degrees are awarded by UIC Barcelona under the auspices of our University’s prestige, students are not charged and they contain the stamp and signature of UIC Barcelona’s rector and the dean of each Faculty.  You will receive this degree certificate between two months and one year following completion.

It is very important that students get in touch with their Faculty’s secretary several months before finishing their master’s degree classes to get all the information they need on the process for issuing their degree, submission deadlines and to ask any other questions regarding this document.

Students are responsible for managing any other legal procedure or stamp that may be required from their country of origin.
